It’s rather
unfortunate that hackers will go to such great lengths to hack into your wow
account and even the most careful users can be victims. So I’ve come up with a
few suggestions here to help you avoid being a victim.
1 Be Careful With
Your Email Address
Be careful who you
give your email address to or even get a separate email address just for your
wow login only. In any case keep both your wow logins and email address
passwords safely protected. If you sign up for any other wow websites with your
email address use another email and password other than the one you use for
your wow login.
2 Never Click
Links Inside Emails from “Blizzard.”
Just go directly
to the Blizzard website yourself using your bookmark or carefully typed URL in
your web browser. Just one misspelling of their URL can bring you to another
website entirely and it may even look exactly like the real wow website. So
beware. And always remember that Blizzard will never ask for your password
in-game or in any email whatsoever. Some of the emails you get may be real but
others may not be.
3 Get A Blizzard
Authenticator
If you haven’t
changed your password in accounts wow
for a while, let’s say for over six months or even a year or two now might be a
good time to do that. An even better idea would be to get a Blizzard
authenticator. You can buy one from Blizzard directly or you can download a
free app to your iPhone or Droid. Just make sure to call Blizzard immediately
if you lose your phone and/or key fob Authenticator.
4 Be Careful Where
You Get Your Add-Ons and Curse Client
Be careful with
any add-ons you have. If you must use add-ons try to get them from a reputable
source like Curse.com which scans the add-ons that are updated to their website
before you are allowed to download them. Furthermore, make sure that you are
going to the real curse page for either their modes or their installers or
both. I came across an article here that hackers were buying up Google Ads to
direct users to fake curse websites and/or curse client downloads.
5 Make Sure Your
Computer Is Updated
Make sure your
computer OS and internet browser (s) are updated regularly with any security
updates. I’ve also heard that some browsers are more secure than others and
that using Firefox over Internet Explorer is recommended.
6 You Need A
Firewall & An Anti-virus Program
Make sure that you
have both a firewall and anti-virus program installed, up-to-date and running
at all times. Also if you don’t have a spybot software system I suggest you get
one.
7 WOW Updates
Also be careful
where you get your wow updates from and watch where you surf the net in
general. Downloading junk from warez, blackhat, porn and other similar sites is
just asking for trouble. If something is being offered for a free download you
really have to ask yourself why these days.
8 Don’t Trust Your
Friends with Your Account Information
They may be your
friends and you may trust them with your life but they may not be as careful
with your wow login information as you are.
